Abstract
The prevalence of cholesterol in Indonesia is 66.41%. Central Java is included in the five
highest provinces with consumption behavior of fatty foods, cholesterol, and fried foods, which is 60.3%.
The purpose of this study was to determine the anticholesterol activity of red shoot leaf extract
(Syzyginium myrtifolium Walp) on the profile value of total cholesterol levels in male white rats of the
Wistar strain. Red shoot leaf extract was obtained by using the maceration method. Red shoot leaf
extract contains anthocyanin compounds that can reduce cholesterol levels, flavonoid compounds and
tannin compounds. This study is an experimental study using a pre-post test design with a control group
using 25 rats which were divided into 5 groups (positive group, negative group, extract group 1 (dose
of 200 mg/kg BW), extract group 2 (dose of 250 mg /kg BW), and extract group 3 (dosage 300 mg/kg
BW), each group consisted of 5 rats. Evaluation of antihypercholesterol activity was analyzed using the
Repeated-Measures ANOVA test / Friedman test, to determine whether there was a significant effect of giving red shoot leaf extract. The results of the analysis of the Repeated-Measures ANOVA test showed that the leaf extract activity as an anticholesterol with the best effectiveness was shown in the extract group 3 (300 mg/kg BW) with a significant value of 0.647.
